S

outh Texas Fighting Championships is serving up another night of action packed fights as STFC 45 featuring nine bouts is going down 8 p.m. Friday, March 2 at the McAllen Convention Center.

The stacked card is open to all ages as fighters across Texas and Mexico prepare to put it all on the line Friday night.

Headlining the card in the main event is Edinburg’s own Robert “The Lumberjack” Aguirre, a muay-thai fighter who is a perfect 4-0 as a professional and unbeaten fighting under the STFC banner. Aguirre is ranked 15th of 109 active Texas Pro Bantamweights.

Aguirre will square off against John Herrera who’s fighting out of Victoria, TX, at a catchweight of 150 pounds. Herrera is undefeated as an amateur at 6-0 (4 KO/TKO) and will make his professional debut when he steps into the cage as the main event against Aguirre. Herrera is ranked 34d of 148 active Texas Amateur Lightweights.

“The Lumberjack” will be looking to keep his perfect professional record intact and build off his last four fights which included third-round KO of Issac Matamoros in 2017 and a second-round TKO of Adonis Sauceda in 2016.

In the co-main event is Elias Rodriguez (4-0) fighting out of Weslaco who will take on Eduardo Bustillos (5-3) fighting out of McAllen. Rodriguez is a black-belt in jiu-jitsu and looks keep his record unblemished after Friday night.

The card features six professional fights and three amateur bouts including a rematch between Chris Cuadra and Robert Rodriguez, who fought to a controversial decision in their first meeting as amateurs in May 2017.

Now, the two will make their professional debut against each other at STFC 45 and both men are out to prove something.

Cuadra had his hand raised after the first fight and is confident he’ll see the same result this time, he’s planning on not letting this one go to the scorecards.

“As soon as the first fight ended, I knew that he was going to want a rematch,” he said. “I was going to give it to him, right of the bat. I was going to give it to him, after a war like that, it’s only fitting. I have something to prove this time. … Either he’s gonna put me away or I’m going to put him away.”

Rodriguez was successful when standing up with Cuadra, rocking him once and knocking him down another.

“My plan is not going to be any different from last time,” Rodriguez said. “I’m going to be here, I’m going to put on a show. He’s a tough competitor, but this time he’s not going to stand up after I drop him. Looking for a finish, looking for that knockout. Looking to make a statement.”
