he 2018 Winter Olympics are officially underway and Mexico’s German Madrazo, a cross-country skier and McAllen resident, put on for the culture and rocked a mariachi fit and sombrero as Mexico’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony Friday in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
The 43-year old isn’t your average olympian. The frequent triathlon competitor picked up the sport of cross-country skiing at the age of 42. Yes, you read that right. Originally from Queretaro, Mexico, Madrazo has lived in McAllen the last 10 years where he runs Valley Running Company, a running and shoe store in McAllen.
Madrazo will launch into competition on Tuesday Feb. 13. The Winter Olympics can be viewed on NBC and NBCSN. A full schedule of TV listings and times can be viewed here.
