This weekend the Rio Grande Valley Football Club (RGV FC) Toros will be hosting the Swope Park Rangers at H-E-B Park. The Toros hope to add another win to their 3-3 game record. Currently, the Toros are ranked number 8 out of the 15 teams in the league, while the Rangers are ranked number 4, but if our top shooters can bring their “A” game and our defense can keep them from bringing theirs, the execution may work out perfectly for our Toros.
Top shooters for our RGV FC Toros are #10-Eric Bird with a 9-shot average (5 shots on target), and #9-Ruben Luna with an average of 8 shots (6 shots on target), and #7-Camilo Monroy with a 6-shot average (3 shots on target).
It’s game 7 and if the Toros want the percentage of games played to be in favor of “W’s”, then this is the perfect game to take charge of their record. Leading up to this Saturday’s game the Toros are standing at a 50% split between games lost and games won. It’ll be tough going up against a team who’s ranked number 4, but nonetheless very possible. To keep the Rangers from walking away with a win, our defense will need to be on point. The defense stats are 4 goals concealed at a rate of 0.7 per game, the Toros have a 76.5% success rate in tackles which is a little less than 30% shy of a perfect 100% success rate.
The RGV FC Toros is a member of the United Soccer League (USL) and serve as the hybrid affiliate to the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, meaning that the Dynamo is responsible for player selection and coaching staff. One of the Valley’s top shooters, José Escalante with 11 shots (5 shots on target), now plays with Houston Dynamo as their Attacking Midfielder. That is the exact idea behind the RGV FC’s Toros and their hybrid with the Houston Dynamo. These are actually the first clubs to operate as such in the USL, which brings a great amount of attention to the Valley and to the overall development of our area.
Game Day this weekend will be kicked off with a “pre-game fiesta”, in which all fans (with an I.D. for proof of being 21 or over) are encouraged to attend. Live music and cold cervezas, margaritas, and nachos will be available for $1.00! Pre-game is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be held at the game site, (H-E-B Park 1616 S Raul Longoria Rd, Edinburg, TX 78542), followed by the game (of course) which starts at 7:30 p.m.
If you don’t have to be at work, you definitely have a seat with us! You can purchase your ticket to this Saturday’s game, or any other game until June 17th, either at the location or online (http://www.rgvfc.com/tickets) by clicking on the game date you are looking to attend.
