World Cup Final match set for Sunday

he stage is set for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final.

Croatia emerged victorious today in their 2018 FIFA World Cup Semifinal match against England, prevailing by a score of 2-1 in extra time to set up a World Cup Final match against France on Sunday, July 15 at 10 a.m. on FOX.

England’s Kieran Trippier scored the match’s first goal with a curving free kick from just outside the penalty area at the 5:30 mark of the first half.

In the 68th minute, Croatia’s Ivan Perišić headed in a cross from Šime Vrsaljko for the equalizer, eventually forcing the match into extra time.

In the second half of extra time, Croatia’s Mario Mandžukić headed in the game-winning goal to give Croatia a 2-1 victory and their first World Cup Final appearance.

Croatia will play in its’ first World Cup Final match in five tournament appearances (1998, 2002, 2006, 2014 and 2018).

France earned their way into the final by knocking off Belgium yesterday in their semifinal match 1-0 to move on to the World Cup Final. Samuel Umtiti scored the match’s lone goal off a header in the 51st minute.

This is France’s third World Cup Final appearance as Les Bleus qualified for the final match in 1998 and 2006, winning their only World Cup as tournament’s host in ’98 over Brazil.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Final between France and Croatia is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday, July 15 and can be viewed on FOX.

The Third Place match between Belgium and England is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14.
