By Bryan Ramos

niversity Productions is bringing Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical ‘In The Heights’ to life as the show is set to open Wednesday, Feb. 28 and run through Sunday inside the Albert L. Jeffers Theatre on the UTRGV campus.

Miranda, the brilliant mind behind the famous musical ‘Hamilton’, splashed onto the scene in 2008 with ‘In The Heights’ which opened on Broadway and won four tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The musical also won a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2009.

The musical is directed by UTRGV theater professor Brian Warren, who has been with the University of Texas Pan American and UTRGV since 2002 and has directed over 30 productions with the university.

The story spans over the course of three days in the New York City neighborhood of Washington Heights, largely populated Hispanic-Americans. The musical follows these people and tells a story of  hopes and dreams and the battle for the place they call home.

The musical definitely has a fun, modern feel to it with flavors of hip-hop, salsa, merengue, reggaeton and rap throughout and is designed for everyone to enjoy.
