From musical festivals to day parties, SPI offers plenty of fun for Spring Breakers
By Brenda Garza
very year, there is just one thing students think about once the New Year is over, and that my friends is Spring Break. Now, us Valley kids, know that there is one place to go and that’s South Padre Island, better known as South Party Island.
Just to give you a clue as to how popular South Padre Island, or SPI is, U.S. News Travel ranked it #10 in its yearly Top 10 Best Spring Break Destination review, however, it’s also been ranked #2 in the nation for drug and alcohol infested Instagram photos. So, please keep those pictures to a minimum people!
Not only is SPI ranked 10th as one of the Best Spring Break Destinations, but it was also ranked fifth on both Best Cheap Spring Break Destination and Best Places to Visit in Texas on U.S. News Travel. Now we Valley folk take it for granted that it’s literally in our back yard, but for those traveling in, it’s the best hidden treasure in the nation!
Okay! So back to why SPI is so popular. Well, let me tell you. From the beach to the bay, from the rescued turtle sanctuaries to fishing, bungie jumping to parachuting, SPI has it all, including some of the best concerts around, including UME, Ultimate Music Experience, where uber awesome DJs from around the world come to entertain thousands of diehard EDM, Electric Dance Music, enthusiasts.
